What
to Expect
Why is
an adjustment needed?
Joints that are not moving properly can cause compression on spinal nerves
causing symptoms to appear throughout the body. Adjustments are needed
to restore proper function to the joints that are not performing normally.
Joints that do not move enough force other joints to move too much. An
adjustment adds motion to a joint, helping the bones to gradually return
to a more normal motion and position.
How should
I feel after an adjustment?
A chiropractic spinal adjustment is the art of using a specific force
in a precise direction, applied to a joint that is not moving properly.
At the moment that a subluxation is corrected, literally hundreds of bodily
functions and activities are affected. As the flow of nerve impulses over
the spinal cord and spinal nerves are normalized, the body begins to renew
and rebuild itself.
Because subluxations
interfere with health by impinging on nerves in many different parts of
the body, people often experience different feelings after an adjustment.
Peace
and Relaxation
After adjustments some people experience a feeling of peace and relaxation.
You may be one of them. This relaxed feeling may last for the rest of
the day or the week and may lead to deep refreshing sleep. Others have
felt a warm feeling flowing to various parts of their bodies that's very
soothing. Some feel very energetic and do all their chores or business
that day with a light, happy feeling.
Relief
of Symptoms
Others may find that their symptoms have begun to disappear, that the
problems they came to the chiropractor for have begun to lessen after
their first visit. And there are some people who feel no different after
an adjustment. That does not necessarily mean they are not benefiting
from their adjustments, it just means they're not feeling any external
reaction.
Adjustment
Reactions
Other people, usually a small minority, may feel discomfort or even some
pain and they may experience a headache or some other uncomfortable feeling.
Even those experiencing such first time reactions to the adjustment later
enjoy the feeling of well being that usually accompanies an adjustment
after a short period of time.
